Launched in 1969, the Heuer Monaco broke the mould as one of the first automatic chronographs with a square, water resistant case, a genuinely radical shape in a world of round watches. It was a slow seller at launch, until Steve McQueen wore it on screen in the 1971 film Le Mans, cementing it as one of the most recognisable watches in the world.
